Why
Low Pressure Nozzles?
There
has been a trend in the fire service for several years to
utilize greater water flow for initial attack. The most popular
delivery system seems to be 1.75" hose with a lightweight
nozzle (or nozzle combination) that will deliver from 150 to 225
GPM. Even with lightweight synthetic hose, this flow range can
be hard to handle because of the reaction force the nozzle team
encounters.
There are two ways to reduce reaction force: flow less water;
or reduce the nozzle pressure at which the water is being
discharged. By reducing the flow you will also reduce your fire
fighting capabilities (water still puts out the fire); but by
reducing the nozzle pressure to apply that flow, you merely
reduce the reaction force of the fire stream...and that equates
to less wear-'n-tear on the nozzleman!
The nozzles shown on this page deliver their rated flows at
50 or 75 psi rather than the normal 100 psi; consequently, the
reaction force of like flows will be less with these low
pressure nozzles.
